Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, we must get rid of every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and run with endurance the race set out for us, 2 keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy set out for him he endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Think of him who endured such opposition against himself by sinners, so that you may not grow weary in your souls and give up.
Pivot to the discussion by encouraging the group members to share how past sins and other’s sins can, will, and is enslaving them:
Tell us about how you think the past sins of others against you and your own past sins potentially impacted your life.
As you were experiencing all of this, how did it impact your relationship with God?
Ask group members to move to action by:
Acknowledging the TRUTH and the REALITY of it
Acknowledging the WRONG, CAUSE and RESPONSIBILITY for it
Acknowledging that the GRACE and GOODNESS of God’s Spirit is the only pathway THROUGH IT so we can FORGIVE IT and FORGET IT
Encourage the group members to be authentic and transparent in their response.

1. Most people live painfully unaware of the power that their past has on the life they are attempting to live in the present and in the future.
2. Being enslaved to past sins has the power to manifest itself through the past sins of others against us or our own past personal sins.
3. The enemy uses the power of past sins as a means to stifle, slow or stop us from:
Knowing God’s amazing love for us
Responding in obedience to God’s promise inheritance to us
Fulfilling God’s plan and purpose in and through us
4. Past sins of others and society are designed to cause us to blame and reject God. This ultimately moves us from the rightful position of victim to the adversarial role of villain or (enemy) because of our active opposition of God, His worship, word, will and ways.
5. What’s God’s answer? What’s His solution? Confronting and overcoming our past by:
Acknowledging the TRUTH and the REALITY of it
Acknowledging the WRONG, CAUSE and RESPONSIBILITY for it
Acknowledging that the GRACE and GOODNESS of God’s Spirit is the only pathway THROUGH IT so we can FORGIVE IT and FORGET IT
