Learning How to Trust God MORE

TDPM Life Groups Mini Assembly : Growing in Grace, Peace, Truth Through Knowing God Intimately (Learning How to Trust God MORE)

Read Scripture

Psalm 13 New International Version (NIV) For the director of music. A psalm of David. 1 How long, LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? 2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? 3 Look on me and answer, LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death, 4 and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall. 5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. 6 I will sing the LORD’s praise, for he has been good to me.

Psalm 52:8-9 New International Version (NIV) 8 But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever. 9 For what you have done I will always praise you in the presence of your faithful people. And I will hope in your name, for your name is good.

Pivot to the discussion by asking the following questions:

  1. As you and your family transition through this crisis, how are you growing in your TRUST in God? How have you been challenged to go and grow deeper in your relationship with God?

  2. Please give the group one or two situations, events or experiences where your TRUST IN GOD has been challenged and what your response was. NO RELIGIOUS or PIOUS ANSWERS PLEASE!

Feel free to be authentic and transparent in your response because ALL SPIRITUAL GROWTH involves trials, troubles, test and tragedies that we don’t always OVERCOME IMMEDIATELY and unfortunately involve FAILURE that leads to TRIUMPH as we go and grow through it.

Ministry Focus

  1. These scriptures highlight the Psalmist, David’s, real life struggle with TRUSTING IN GOD, especially during difficult and challenging times. The text reveals David’s challenge with his fears, feelings, doubts, disappointment, discouragement and anger. It also reveals how intimate, authentic and tender his relationship with God was as demonstrated by his honest and transparency with Him. The text also shows that God expects our TRUST IN HIM to be our response by FAITH in spite of what we see, are feeling or are facing (see Ps. 13:5–6 and Ps. 52:8-9). However, in spite of how difficult this might be, God provides the necessary GRACE as we TRUST HIS UNFAILING LOVE for us.

  2. Life Group Leaders and members should encourage and support one another even if the person is not at a certain level of TRUSTING IN GOD, while always remembering that our TRUST IN HIM grows the more we receive and respond to HIS UNFAILING LOVE to us, in us and through us.

  3. The real question is: WILL WE RECEIVE and WILL WE RESPOND TO HIS UNFAILING LOVE by FAITH that OVERCOMES whatever we’re facing?
