Learning How to Use the Power of the Blessing

TDPM Life Groups Mini Assembly : Growing in Grace, Peace, Truth Through Knowing God Intimately (Learning How to Use the Power of the Blessing)

Read Scripture:

Genesis 12:1-3 New International Version (NIV)

The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.

2 “I will make you into a great nation,

and I will bless you;

I will make your name great,

and you will be a blessing.

3 I will bless those who bless you,

and whoever curses you I will curse;

and all peoples on earth

will be blessed through you.”

1 Peter 3:9 New International Version (NIV)

Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

Pivot to the discussion by encouraging the group members to share how the power of God’s blessing has transformed their lives and challenge them in the coming days and weeks to bless their family, friends and others through:

  • Prayers of blessing for God’s Presence, Protection, Provision, and the fulfillment of His Promise and Purpose in their lives.

  • Words of Blessing, Affirmation and Confirmation

  • Acts and Deeds of Blessing that release and demonstrate His Goodness, Grace and Mercy.

Encourage the group members to be authentic and transparent in their response.

Ministry Focus

Numbers 6:24-26 New International Version (NIV)

24 “‘“The Lord bless you and keep you; 25 the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; 26 the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”’

1. God has designed His blessing to be one of the most significant ways to promote and provide protection, provision and His purpose in our lives and throughout the world we live in. God’s blessing is so powerful that it transcends and overcomes the power of the curse and can dramatically change the direction and destiny of our lives.

But what does a blessing look like and how can it transform the reality of our lives or the situations we face?

2. When we declare or decree a true blessing over a person, something or even our own lives, we are “describing the way God sees them, us or the situation.” The power of the blessing prophetically establishes the way God intended or supposed someone or something to be, even if it is not evident yet in the natural realm. Declaring and decreeing blessings are speaking things that are not as though they were (Rom. 4:17).

3. When we speak a blessing, we are invoking the blessing of God in and over the life of another because a blessing is an instrument of His love; we directing His goodness to them; interceding and standing in the gap” for them. (Ezekiel 22:30; Hebrews 4:16).
